My good friend and incredibly talented illustrator, Greg Houston, will be releasing his new book on the art and business of illustration on March 15th. Amazon describes it as: "A straight-to-the-point 'everything-you-need-to-know' guide to the world of professional illustration for aspiring artists and recent art-school graduates—not only the technical essentials, but industry insights, real-world insider advice, and honest personal development tips from an experienced teacher."
Greg and I met while students at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, but soon after graduation Greg moved back to Baltimore where he has forged a successful illustration career, taught at MICA and now co-founded the Baltimore Academy of Illustration with partners Alex Fine and Jonathon Scott Fuqua. His love of his craft is infectious and he can bring out the best in any level of student.
During the creation of The Sound of All Things, I often called Greg to discuss various aspects of a specific piece or the general process and challenges of illustrating a book. I enjoyed our discussions immensely. He was always willing to act as a fresh eye and provided valuable feedback.
Oh yeah, and I'm honored to have a couple of my paintings included in the new book.
