I was given the opportunity to sign copies of my book, The Sound of All Things, at a Somerset Patriots minor league baseball game as part of their Super Summer Reader Club author and illustrator celebration at TD Ballpark in Bridgewater. I'm always looking for an excuse to head out to see a game, so I accepted.
I didn't realize it ahead of time, but it also turned out to be costume night, so many fans were dressed up, adding to the festivities. The skies had threatened to rain, but it turned out to be a wonderful night and I met several fellow authors and illustrators as well as the families attending the game and browsing books. It was a very enjoyable evening for all. Given my longtime standing as a Yankee fan and New Yorker, it was hard to say "Go Pats!" but I had remind myself that this was baseball, not football!
Above, you can see the other authors as well as the event organizer Paul (holding a donation check to the Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County) posing with the Patriots mascot.
Baseball and books - two of my favorite things that go great together.
